The kitsch decor that adorns the walls of this Collingwood eatery gives little evidence of the wonders the menu has to offer. With buttercup-rendered walls, fish tanks filled with brightly coloured plastic fish, dark timber tables and backlit pictures, this could be anything from a chic new wine bar to a student's art space. The only thing that gives its true intentions away is the beautiful aroma that is so synonymous with Vietnamese cooking: freshly ripped mint leaves and the earthy sour of fish sauce.
The menu offers some variations from the usual Vietnamese suspects found around town, including quirky combinations such as slivers of pork and chunks of spring roll on a bed of white vermicelli, shredded lettuce and mint, which is both satisfying and delicious. Ngon Ngon is a colourful addition to the Collingwood stable of cheap and flavoursome eateries.
