Not a good start to our night...
Our experience at Next Door left a lot to be desired. To start our girls' night I booked at Next Door. None of us had been before but all came with high expectations, some of us having read the same raving review online. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I constantly found myself gazing round the restaurant admiring the interior. The menu, though a little lacking in information looked good. And when the mains board finally arrived our mouths were watering in anticipation. The food did not disappoint and we all enjoyed our meals. What really did disappoint was the terrible service. I use the word terrible quite lightly here, by the end of our dinner we weren't sure whether to feel harassed or laugh at the bizarre experience we had just had. To start we had the menu repeated to us by several staff members, each time we smiled and thanked them for the explanation then continued our conversation. Admittedly two members of our table were an hour late, which seemed to displace our waitress a lot more than it did us. Having to reassure her for the third time - and biting my tongue to avoid yelling the last time - that yes I was sure we are waiting for more people and yes they are on their way. By this stage all at our table were starting to feel a pinch of tension from our waitress and the staff in general. The clincher was the side plates saga. There seemed to be some confusion with our food order. Having ordered a mixture of tapas and mains between us we all felt quite content. This did not suffice for our waitress who insisted she did not know how to set our table, to this I rather abruptly replied, just bring side plates out for us all and if we want to share we will. The side plates never arrived. When our food came out, by waitress and (duty?) manager, again there was confusion what to do with our food, I repeated that we would like side plates to which our waitress said to her manager quite abruptly within ear shot of the entire table, 'see what I mean'. And again the side plates did not arrive. Overall it was downhill from here, servicing our table seemed to be a painful experience. We all opted to skip dessert and go to our next planned event early. Overall I can honestly say in the two years I have been in Perth this has been my worst dining experience so far. The potential for a great restaurant is there, but great food and location are pointless without great service to deliver the ultimate experience.
