Next Door

Next Door is a beacon of late-night light within the gastro landscape of Fremantle, with a kitchen that stays open until 10pm on weeknights and 11pm on weekends. The food is a lustrous affair of modern Australian cuisine with daily specials and some seriously gourmet tasting plates that work well with the adjoining bar and relaxed vibe.

Never Again !!!!!
Four of us were in Fremantle to have dinner , we were heading for the Mexican retaurant when we came across Next Door and decided to give it a try .

After having to get a cloth to clean the thick layer of black dirt from the table and chairs before we could sit down[ should have just moved on right there !!! ] We orderd " our meal "

What a shock ,the waiter told us that the serves were big and we only needed to order one dish between two , we ordered a squid dish for an appertiser , prawn skewers , crab cakes , a curry beef rice dish and a steamed rice .

The squid arrived and the three peices we had each were ok , after some time the 4 prawns on kebeb sticks & 4 small crab cakes arrived but none of the other food . We waited probabley another half hour and decided we would go somewhere we could satisfy our hunger .

For :
2x glasses of reisling
2x stubbies of beer
squid rings ~ about 3 per person
4 x prawns ~ " " 2 small bites each
4 x crab cakes ~ 2 small bites each
The rest of the food we ordered never did arrive !!!!

THE COST $90.00 !!!!!!!

We then went to the Mexican Restaurant where we all had a delicious & satisfying meal , several stubbies of beer and a jug of fruit punch ...........

COST $110.00 !!!!!!!!!!!

NONE OF US WOULD CONSIDER EATING AT AGAIN OR RECOMENDING NEXT DOOR TO ANYONE !!!

Worst meal ever
Came here with high expectations, as we had been told by friends that this was a nice restaurant to eat at. Told by the waiter that the meal sizes were huge and to only order two plates for dinner for four people. Salt and Pepper Squid wasn't disappointing, but the rest of the food was pitiful. We got four crab cakes on a plate with nothing else, dried up prawns on skewers for $7.50 each with only 2 small bites after you took the shell off. Still waiting for one of the other dishes that never arrived. Left to go to another restaurant to eat a real meal.

Not a good start to our night...
Our experience at Next Door left a lot to be desired.
To start our girls' night I booked at Next Door. None of us had been before but all came with high expectations, some of us having read the same raving review online.
The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I constantly found myself gazing round the restaurant admiring the interior. The menu, though a little lacking in information looked good. And when the mains board finally arrived our mouths were watering in anticipation. The food did not disappoint and we all enjoyed our meals. What really did disappoint was the terrible service. I use the word terrible quite lightly here, by the end of our dinner we weren't sure whether to feel harassed or laugh at the bizarre experience we had just had.
To start we had the menu repeated to us by several staff members, each time we smiled and thanked them for the explanation then continued our conversation. Admittedly two members of our table were an hour late, which seemed to displace our waitress a lot more than it did us. Having to reassure her for the third time - and biting my tongue to avoid yelling the last time - that yes I was sure we are waiting for more people and yes they are on their way. By this stage all at our table were starting to feel a pinch of tension from our waitress and the staff in general. The clincher was the side plates saga. There seemed to be some confusion with our food order. Having ordered a mixture of tapas and mains between us we all felt quite content. This did not suffice for our waitress who insisted she did not know how to set our table, to this I rather abruptly replied, just bring side plates out for us all and if we want to share we will. The side plates never arrived. When our food came out, by waitress and (duty?) manager, again there was confusion what to do with our food, I repeated that we would like side plates to which our waitress said to her manager quite abruptly within ear shot of the entire table, 'see what I mean'. And again the side plates did not arrive. Overall it was downhill from here, servicing our table seemed to be a painful experience. We all opted to skip dessert and go to our next planned event early. Overall I can honestly say in the two years I have been in Perth this has been my worst dining experience so far. The potential for a great restaurant is there, but great food and location are pointless without great service to deliver the ultimate experience.
