With a much needed makeover, the old stalwart Newmarket has gone from its former, less tasteful approach, to a modern gastro-pub.
You can tell immediately that a fair amount of money has gone into this refurb but, refreshingly, isn't translated directly to the prices. Both the menu and the wine list are kept at very reasonable prices for what is on offer. Expect to see top quality cuts of meat done in the South American grill style, served on a bed of rice and black beans with accompanying chimichurri sauce.
This kitchen is simply crying out for a real asado (Argentinean grill pit) to do some Asador Extebarri-style dishes, but until then it should be commended for making the best of what it's got.

Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "The Newmarket is the latest in a family of pubs that have Paul Wilson’s full-flavoured stamp on the menu. Its funky retro fit-out and Cal-Mex food spell good fun, writes Michael Harden.
