Like a blast from the past, New York Restaurant seems remarkably untouched by time, retaining its retro roots as an honest little American-style diner where you can get a good grill for an easy price. Cloistered among some colourful company on Kellett Street (wink wink, nudge nudge), this old-fashioned eatery is renowned for its T-bones, braised steaks, lamb chops, beef sausages, Vienna schnitzels and other meaty offerings. The egg and omelette brekkies reel them in, as do the sweet and somewhat nostalgic pleasures like wine jelly with ice cream, and orange or lemon cordial.
