Nahm Thai

Colourful, hip and intimate, this forty-five seater is home to modern and fresh Thai cuisine. Chef and co-owner Kevin Pham has devised an interesting menu that stems far from the standard green chicken curry. Here you can start with the Thai spicy sausage with cucumber relish; or the duck and pork on fresh pineapple and mandarin slices. Then for mains, make sure you order the popular red curry with roast duck and lychees; or try the smoky stir-fried greens with chilli jam, Thai basil, prawns and scallops. Finish off with the coconut milk banana pudding.

Horrendous corkage
We opted for the $75.00 per person banquet and enjoyed our meal immensely. We had excellent and warm service but found the restaurant tried to cram too many people into too small a space which made the atmosphere very strained and tense. It was difficult to hold an intimate conversation because there were so many people so close to the table. It was a real navigation exercise, and almost impossible to achieve, to get from the table to the toilet and back again without inconveniencing other patrons. Similarly when we came to leave, it was impossible to pass between tables without asking people to move their chairs. As we went on a Monday we were VERY surprised to see that the corkage on Monday and Tuesday only was $8.00 per bottle. I feel the restaurant is a little overpriced and the corkage of $8.00 is too much.

A Great Experience
Freeda and I arrived at the restaurant at about 6:05 for the 6:30 seating and was greeted by David who immediately seated us and began describing the food that was about to be offered to us.

Starting with the crab entree with watermelon was an outstanding way to start the eveining. The chef's sense of blending different tastes was magnificant and we couldn't wait to see what was next. For mains the roast duck and pork hock were to die for. Outstanding.
We were not big fans of the snapper but the first two mains more than made up for the snapper.

Finishing it off with the sticky rice and mango was the finishing touch on an outstanding meal. While others have not found the sevice up to par we found it to be excellent and felt much like special attentions was being given to us.

Highly recommend this restaurant for that special occassion. A bit pricy but this is perhaps the best meal that I have ever eaten

superb modern Thai
We had visited Nahm Thai shortly fater it opened, and the service did leave something to be desired, as other reviews have noted. However, it was clear on this occasion that the owners had taken account of the criticism and corrected the problem. This time, the service was attentive and friendly and we were very happy with it.

The entree of galloping horses was simply sensational. I was devastated that I had to share it, and regretted not ordering one each. However, the spicy sausage with the cucumber contrast was wonderful, making up for the initial disappointment.

Main courses of red curry duck and the pork hock were beautifully flavoured and quite memorable.

We didn't try the sweets (seldom do) so can't comment. However, my wife had let slip that it was her birthday, and a portion of cake appeared with the good wishes of the staff.

The atmosphere was intimate and friendly, the service was attentive, and they were happy to look after our BYO wine.

This is not your low-level Thai restaurant, with a red curry, a green curry and the other obligatory dishes. This food is innovative and distinctive.

We had a very happy dinner, marked by exceptionally well flavoured and presented food. We'll be back.

Best Thai Food in Perth
This place came recommended to us and we weren't disappointed. The food is excellent and our waiter offered suggestions which were exceptional.
The only frustration was booking. If trying to book & eat on the same day, you only get an answering machine & therefore may not know until last minute whether you were successful. Worth the risk if you want great food though!

Tasty but very pricey for small serves
My second visit to Nahm Thai and I have to say I m still really disappointed with the price and service.

Due to having a party of five (even on a Monday night), we were forced to have the $65 per head banquet which allowed us to choose 3 entrees and 4 mains from the full menu, as well as having a desert. When booking (which is in itself a drama!), we were told that the kitchen would prepare enough of each dish for the table.... this was certainly not the case.

At $325 for the table, we were underwhelmed with the portion sizes and astounded at the cost, especially for Thai. One of our main choices was the crispy skinned salmon yet for the whole table, we were served only 2 fillets of fish to share. The duck was another choice and for the whole table we were given 10 slivers of duck, around the size of an orange segment. It must be said, that after complaining to the staff, we were given another serve, however it was still rather disappointing at seeing such meagre serves placed on the table.

We worked out that to order and entree and a main each would ve cost us around $54 each.... which to us was far easier to swallow than the mandatory $65. And despite being allowed to BYO on Monday, we were still slugged $10 corkage per bottle, so it didn t really make much difference...

The service again was rather lacking although the staff were attentive when at the table, it was very hard to flag them down to request menus, water and an ice bucket... it took us about 15 minutes to get these standard items.

Look, if you ve money to burn on Thai by all means go visit Nahm Thai, but for my money, I d rather go elsewhere for a fraction of the cost and much larger serving sizes and better service.

good
Good food well presented atmosphere a bit noisy. The waiting time for the meal to arrive is too long. Suggest that the starters arrive almost immediately and then mains can be delayed for a while. All in all a good time had by all.

I'm still hungry
I've eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants over the years and as Nahm Thai had had some great reviews I was keen to see what all the fuss was about. To be honest, I can't say that the food was much better than what you get at most Thai restaurants - except that the dishes cost twice as much and you got half the serve. There was a 3 prawn entree for $20... The main difference was that the dishes were presented a little differently, but at the end of the day that's not why I came. However, the dishes were tasty despite their size.

Terrific!
The food was a fantastic surprise. The duck was heavenly and I thought the serves for $65 quite generous. We left the restaurant quite full. I have raved to others and I think if you are someone who really likes excellent food that is out of ordinary then you should visit this restaurant. Yes the food had some chilli however I thought it just gave the food some bite. In Sydney this restaurant would be difficult to get into. Keep up the good food.

Disappointing....
The meals were quite wonderful. However, the service was extremely slow (we were starving again by each next course), the dessert was actually terrible and the atmosphere was claustrophobic. A very crowded tiny restaurant - at best selfish, at worst simply greedy. 2 tables of 2 too many.

Too hot!
The food at Nahm Thai is delicious but I have to agree with the last review, Nahm Thai has kicked up the chilli factor and its delicate food has been riddled with burn your 'taste buds off' heat.

Nahm Thai has introduced, on a Friday and Saturday night, a sharing banquet set menu 'option' - using option loosely as there is no alternative at cost of $65 per head! I also think they have cut down on portion sizes and the amount meat in their dishes.

Nouveau Thai with hot chillies
Perth may be looking for nouveau cuisine, but small serves on big plates at $30 gets a bit much. 4 people, 3 entrees, 4 mains, 2 desserts and numerous bottles of San Pelligrino came to $235. Bit rich for Perth and only one dish did not have chillies (please don't ask the chef to change the hotness of the dish, said the waiter).

This may fly in New York, but Perth may have a way to go. The desserts came closest to reasonable value for money.

Went for a night our with visitors from Melbourne. Food nice, pity that we waited about an hour for our main course which then came out over a period of 20 minutes.

Modern Thai for Perth.. finally!!
At last modern Thai finally comes to Perth.
While I love Thai food, green curry and pad Thai can become boring. This is where nahm Thai steps in. Think spicy crab with watermelon, rock lobster and spicy sausage with cucumber relish, it is all here.
Service is professional and attentive while the deco provides a warm charm perfect for a hot date you are trying to impress or catching up with friends and enjoying some memorable food.
Book now! Find a quality bottle of red you have been wanting to open and get down there.

Spectacular Thai food
Go to Nahm Thai if all your senses need treat. Rivalling its next door neighbour Nine, these guys know their Thai food and it's run by a Vietnamese couple!

My favourite mains include a salmon and scallop dish with apple relish and the cold duck breast slivers with fresh mangosteen salad with a sweet nut dressing. There are mild and hot dishes, everything very well labelled. For dessert I had the sago pudding, which was delicious.

Service was unfaltering. Waiter kept returning to the table to pour our BYO wine. All white tables with both booths and funky retro chairs, the attention to detail with decor and crockery makes this place a classy joint.

Go - you will not regret it!
