superb modern Thai
We had visited Nahm Thai shortly fater it opened, and the service did leave something to be desired, as other reviews have noted. However, it was clear on this occasion that the owners had taken account of the criticism and corrected the problem. This time, the service was attentive and friendly and we were very happy with it.
The entree of galloping horses was simply sensational. I was devastated that I had to share it, and regretted not ordering one each. However, the spicy sausage with the cucumber contrast was wonderful, making up for the initial disappointment.
Main courses of red curry duck and the pork hock were beautifully flavoured and quite memorable.
We didn't try the sweets (seldom do) so can't comment. However, my wife had let slip that it was her birthday, and a portion of cake appeared with the good wishes of the staff.
The atmosphere was intimate and friendly, the service was attentive, and they were happy to look after our BYO wine.
This is not your low-level Thai restaurant, with a red curry, a green curry and the other obligatory dishes. This food is innovative and distinctive.
We had a very happy dinner, marked by exceptionally well flavoured and presented food. We'll be back.

Tasty but very pricey for small serves
My second visit to Nahm Thai and I have to say I m still really disappointed with the price and service.
Due to having a party of five (even on a Monday night), we were forced to have the $65 per head banquet which allowed us to choose 3 entrees and 4 mains from the full menu, as well as having a desert. When booking (which is in itself a drama!), we were told that the kitchen would prepare enough of each dish for the table.... this was certainly not the case.
At $325 for the table, we were underwhelmed with the portion sizes and astounded at the cost, especially for Thai. One of our main choices was the crispy skinned salmon yet for the whole table, we were served only 2 fillets of fish to share. The duck was another choice and for the whole table we were given 10 slivers of duck, around the size of an orange segment. It must be said, that after complaining to the staff, we were given another serve, however it was still rather disappointing at seeing such meagre serves placed on the table.
We worked out that to order and entree and a main each would ve cost us around $54 each.... which to us was far easier to swallow than the mandatory $65. And despite being allowed to BYO on Monday, we were still slugged $10 corkage per bottle, so it didn t really make much difference...
The service again was rather lacking although the staff were attentive when at the table, it was very hard to flag them down to request menus, water and an ice bucket... it took us about 15 minutes to get these standard items.
Look, if you ve money to burn on Thai by all means go visit Nahm Thai, but for my money, I d rather go elsewhere for a fraction of the cost and much larger serving sizes and better service.
