Mures Upper Deck

Arguably the best-known restaurant in Hobart, Mures is located in the middle of busy Victoria Dock. The fish is caught daily with the restaurant's own fishing boat. With good service and an interesting menu it's a lovely place for a stylish seafood dinner.

Typical tourist restaurant - relies on location not food to get the crowd
Pretty decent (grilled) fish and chips, but you should avoid ordering starters, seems the chef has been watching too much master chef - looks good but tastes terrible. The scallop combination was odd, and we couldnt eat the prawns as the seasoning was extremely salty and completely overpowered the prawns. We were asked by the waiter how our meal was, I told him "the fish was really good, but we couldnt eat the prawns as they were too salty" pointing to the half eaten plate, to which he responded, "oh they were too salty" and left the table. Not the kind of response that you'd expect.

Return to an old Favourite
Had not been here for sometime, but as soon as we walked through the door got a warm friendly welcome was shown to a table near the window great spot to dine. Menu was explained to us very clearly and drinks order taken. Wait staff very attentive and very friendly, food arrived and the fish for her was brilliant!!! my steak was a tad over cooked for my request but the veggies and sauce with it were great. Were very impressed with service and food, the only downer was the oil provided for the bread rolls did not taste quite right. But we will be returning not leaving it so long to go back as we had done before well to the floor staff

Great view, good seafood
The freezing Hobart weather could be seen tormenting the marina while we feasted on shellfish and ling. All round the food was just good, but the staff were very Tasmanian, that is welcoming and generous, and the view and warm room stunning. Three courses, wine and coffee was a not inconsequential $175, but I still felt comfortable giving a tip as the young wait folk did not shirk their work as can be their wont, and the older carried themselves with the dignity of personnel within an establishment of such calibre. Not fancy, not too pricey, really great staff. The papier m?ch? tuna are hanging periLously low, but are harmless. Chowder a bit smokey and, as I told the maitre d, it's chow--derr!

Improved
After previously going here for dinner about a year ago and having a very unimpressive expensive seafood platter (the cold stuff was fine because they didn't do anything to it but the stuff they tried to cook was dry, nasty & ruined) I went here for lunch and I was suprised that it was pretty darn good. 2 course lunch special really good value, your get bread AND if there are 2 of you they give you a WHOLE bottle of wine. I had a Caesar salad for entree - the dressing was just perfect, nice and salty and crispy croutons and for main course a deliciously sweet miso glazed salmon with sticky rice and daiken. Nice lunchy atmosphere will definately give it another go sometime.

Typically overated because of location
We dined as part of a function group but would not expect standards to fall so dramatically just because of this. A very ordinary meal. Associates had dined independently the previous day and said the food hadn't been much better then. Dried out, overcooked and bland.

One of the best ever, by far
The meal was outstanding, service excellent as always.
The fish was cooked very well, oysters outstanding, rich creamy with depth of flavour only Tassie can have. Wine list was great, wine served cold also waitress had knowledge of wines, not easy to find in young staff a credit to management and training of staff.
The refit has worked, giving more space and view of the harbour.
