There's nothing monstrous about this Fitzroy North exercise in vegetarian food done the delicious way. Owner Elena Bonnici (of Northcote's Pizza Meine Liebe) and chef Matthew Andrews (of Richmond's Tofu Shop International) are showing the sceptics that there's more to vegetarian food than just tofu. Andrews and co. create appetising salads, curries, baked vegies, cakes, slices and a raft of specials, many of which incorporate gluten-free and vegan needs with no problems. And, no doubt, modernist monsters of Melbourne are sure to fancy the wooden art-deco counters, benches, tabletops, booth dividers and shelves that deck this full-of-character cafe.
