Though only a recent addition to the Alexander Street food strip, MuMu Grill, headed by owner/chef Craig Macindoe (formerly of Kings Cross establishment The Tasting Room), has already become a local hotspot.
From the Warhol-esque prints of cattle and pigs on the pine feature wall, to a name that evokes thoughts of outrageously fresh beef, it's clear that Macindoe is a man passionate about his meat. Here at yourRestaurants we're enthusiastic carnivores ourselves, so we were hooked from our first glance at the menu.
The tapas selection was enticing, including a variety of dishes clearly designed to keep the vegophiles happy. The mushrooms topped with roasted capsicum, feta and parmesan, and the grilled quail breast on mushroom with white bean paste were both delicious, but the most surprising dish was also the most humble. The unassuming house-made corn bread, served with a healthy dollop of butter, was warm from the oven and a delightfully light, crumbly creation of melt-in-the-mouth perfection.
The bar was set high for the mains, but MuMu delivered. The standout was the signature Kimel coffee-crusted, aged and grass-fed sirloin. The coffee added an intriguingly gritty texture to the meat's tenderness and, inexplicably, we found it addictive.
With too many delectable desserts to choose from, we opted for the varied sample platter, providing just enough to satisfy our 'dessert stomachs'. The brown sugar pavlova was a sensory revelation, its caramelised foundation proving just sweet enough, compared to the over sweetness its white-sugared counterparts are often guilty of. The mousse was the perfect balance of rich and fluffy, with just a hint of bitterness from the fine dark chocolate. We left feeling sinfully full and swearing that the diet starts tomorrow - though perhaps after we go back for a slice of corn bread or two.

$4.50 per person to cut and serve a BYO birthday cake?
Yep, that's right. We were told that would be the charge if we had a birthday cake after our meal. When I told the maitre d I thought the $4.50 charge was excessive, he patronised me by saying "this is a restaurant". Well, mate, I won't be coming back anytime soon even though the food was great and your waiters are first class.

Very disappointed with our dinner
Night out without our children was disappointing our welcome and table service were fine until the empty restaurtant put a large table of noisy people right next to us with many other unoccupied seats available. The service was good but the meal was terrible. My organic chicken breast arrived and I am sure it was a quail without the breast just the leg and for the cost no vegetables. My partners' T-Bone steak which cost nearly $40.00 was as the saying "As tough as a mally bull", and half the size as quoted on the menu.

Not what i expected
I always thought it wasn't difficult to cook steak, but apparently "medium" was taken to mean "my steak is bleeding".
I wouldn't have been so disappointed if the service had been better. My wine was 'off' and the manager refused to exchange it, insisting that the bottle was 'just opened'. Honestly, I don't think pouring another glass of wine for me would cost the restaurant that much... but then again, the restaurant was pretty empty on a sunday night.
