Mr Wolf

Begun by highly respected chef Karen Martini with a selection of partners, this St Kilda pizzeria has been ticking along successfully for several years. As the involvement of Ms Martini would suggest, this is far from the ubiquitous corner pizza shop serving greasy creations of tinned pineapple and cheese. Instead, it offers a comparatively high-class selection of simple yet tastebud-tingling toppings, such as river salt, rosemary and smashed olives; or roast tomato and cauliflower, sausage, pancetta and chilli. Apart from the excellent pizzas, diners can nibble on antipasti (the ideal accompaniment to a pre-dinner aperitif) and a smattering of traditional Italian mains.

Mr. Woxy please!
Went for an early dinner at about 6pm with two other friends.

Place wasn't too busy at that hour, although there were a few families there. Even then, although the kids were a bit noisy, we still had a very enjoyable time. I was plesantly surprised that Mr. Wolf was a bit more polished on the interior than I thought it would be (my impressions were based on the website) as i expected it would be a bit more pub-ish.

The pizzas did not disappoint, I was thrilled of the gluten free bases which are not too different to the regular base, so my friends weren't disappointed either. The pizzas were definetly filling and hearty.

The whole experience was fun, casual but classy as well. :]

A wolf in sheeps clothing
I am clueless as to why this place is so popular. It's not very comfortable, dark and can be noisy. Pizza's are $20-5 to $23 an they have plenty of very good competition. Cocktails around $12 to $16 look like fun but again they have plenty of competition. Ihad a lass of spanish red (Temperanillo) and the special of the day. It was a large serve of two big shanks with potato, carrot, pumpkin and parsnip in a rich thick sauce, served with bread, Murray river salt and pepper - no butter. Cheap at $29 and filling. a farmers dinner

What a waste of time and money!
On first impressions, the cafe appears young and funky, with a clean stream-lined feel, white walls and hard metal tables. Unfortunately, on sitting down, I found the seats uncomfortable and too low to the ground. The floor was dirty and the metallic tables gave the place a feel of "eat and get out", instead of a place to enjoy the atmosphere and quality time with the family.

The food sounded great on the menu but when it came out, was bland, small and 'under-garnished'. It felt like we were paying to BE there, not to eat there. For the price we paid, we expected a lot more.

The service was mediocre and the wait staff did not interact in a friendly way.

Overall Mr Wolf felt snobby and unwelcoming. I won't be heading back EVER again.
