Getting into MoVida is an aspiration of every Spanish-food-loving Melburnian, but the high demand for tables makes it a bit like dining Russian roulette - and the 'bullet' is having to settle for one of their less glamorous competitors. This Spanish mecca has taken pity on the masses, opening MoVida Next Door, erm, next door. This little sister offers a more traditional Spanish tapas bar feel, with southern Spanish tapas and raciones served at high bar tables.

Top Lunch
Superb place, consistency and great atmosphere. Movida Next door offers more Seafood options than it's brother next door and it's a slightly bigger menu so I prefer it. Sit near the kitchen and watch the chefs create their simple yet delicious options.

Quick and tasty
We got to next door at about 5.30 expecting to get a seat right away but the place was already packed- a testament to how popular the place is. After being told we would have to wait in the standing room area for half an hour we got a seat in 5 minutes near the window. The service was great, and our waitress constantly filled our water glasses- a service I haven't seen in a long time. The service was very attentive and we had no trouble getting someone's attention if we needed something. The food was very tasty as expected, and they had a few good non-alcoholic drink options for my tee-total friend. We had four dishes to start, and finding ourselves still hungry ordered the fried potatoes which filled us up. Budget about $30 pp.

Just like Madrid
Having dined in many tapas places in Spain MND was right up there - small, cosy, loud, with excellent food, service & informed staff when it comes to advise on choices & quantities. Don't pass on the fried eggplant, nor the salt cod on flat bread - superb! The menu isnt as diverse as the original but all the flavours & atmosphere are there in ham-fulls!
