Make it your mission to discover Moroccan cuisine and culture at this vibrant restaurant, which is made even moreso by its colourful chef, Mohamed Bartaoud. Ask for the traditional mint tea upon arrival and he may just treat you to a theatrical pouring display.
You can order a slew of entrees and share them for a main meal here - the traditional Moroccan way. Choices begin with sausages, grilled kebabs and kafta - softly spiced minced meat. Seafood options include fresh prawn and mussel dishes, both of which use garlic, onion and coriander then invite peppers, paprika and cumin in to play. Squid lovers will be curious to try the cephalopods pickled in special Moroccan spices. Swordfish with chermoula sauce tempts, as does Morocco's national dish, couscous.
The 'Sahara' tagine, cooked in and served from an earthenware dish, evokes images of sweeping deserts - a picture that wouldn't be complete without camels. Indeed 'exotic camel meat' is actually used in the dish, along with seven Sahara spices, olives and Moroccan vegetables. The flavour highlight is preserved lemon, which any Moroccan kitchen worth its salt keeps ample supplies of.

Pleasantly Surprised - A Great Night
There are only a few reviews that I could find for the Moroccan Casbah on the internet and I read these after we booked.... Needless to say I was a bit worried as the reviews aren t great and we had a party of ten! Well, I don t know if The Moroccan Casbah have improved since the previous reviewers dined, but we had a great night. We were out the back in the Casbah and were pleasantly surprised on arrival to this cosy little communal area that was uniquely decorated with rugs, cushions, wall hangings, lanterns etc. So the atmosphere was set from the start. We found the service very attentive and the waiting time for our meals was minimal. We were entertained by a Belly Dancer later in the night, which just added to the great atmosphere. Our group had a variety of meals from the menu and were all consumed with exuberance and delight with no left-over s to be found. Go to this restaurant without expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Don't come to the Casbah
My husband and I thought we'd try having dinner here, after reading a rave review about it by Maggie Beer.
The food was without doubt among the worst we have eaten in a restaurant. We started with the dips and some bread, which were fine but appeared to have come from a supermarket, followed by the beetroot salad and a beef tagine. The beetroot in the salad seemed like tinned sliced beetroot, the flavour of which overpowered all other ingredients in the salad. The tagine, which was described as being a slow-cooked casserole in a rich sauce, appeared to be chunks of lean, overcooked beef that had been blasted in a pressure cooker and then drizzled with a thin, watery stock mixed with ground cinnnamon. We were left wondering whether the chef had simply not shown up and our food had been prepared by our drinks waiter, who had disappeared after serving our drinks on arrival until he came to clear our plates at the end of the meal...
All of this was topped off with Middle Eastern/North African covers of Western pop music blaring from the speakers.
Very strange and extremely disappointing.
