Adjoining Monties' pumping oval bar full of strange, wonderful sculptures is its restaurant. If you travel through the bar to get there you'll pass 'teddy bear in armour' - literally a toy in tin and the proud invention of one of Melbourne's contemporary sculptors. The room is a chic space of crimson walls, candles atop classy tables and creative decorations (though slightly less art-filled than the bar). Let the attentive wait staff tell you about specials such as the five-spice tofu or the coconut poached wild barramundi with spiced lentils. Bread, entrees and mains are all impeccably timed - their efficient arrival is almost as magical as their swift disappearance. If you can't manage dessert, you can head over to the bar for a little liquid digestive and complete your full Monties experience.

Fantastic place
I've been to Monties quite a few times and been impressed at each visit, this one being no exception.
Monties was renovated in 2006 (I believe) and has a new, I suppose younger, style. The service there during the day is absolutely fabulous, very attentive and welcoming but not overdoing it. There are a variety of meals from the very cheap breakfast dishes to the seafood in addition to a great drinks menu. The food is generally great value for money and is quickly but still carefully made.
Will definitely be going back yet again!
