The Montague Hotel has been around since the late 19th century, and after so many years of creating happy memories for South Melbourne locals, the old girl's recent renovations were very well deserved.
Now under the ownership of ex-chef Scott Thomas and with Julian Mann playing the role of head chef, the Montague has blossomed into a classic bistro-style eatery where the food is fundamental and wine is chosen from a serious and extensive selection.
The welcoming dining room features white linen and quality table settings in spacious but homely surrounds that are coloured with rich reds and dark browns.
The vast menu of the Montague is peppered with hearty and interesting meals such as the braised lamb sweetbreads with bacon, peas and mint; and for entree, beetroot cured salmon.
