Mondo Restaurant

Billed as the oldest organic restaurant in Australia, Mondo uses carefully chosen produce to create an eclectic and imaginative menu. Diners might be impressed by dishes such as grilled WA scallops with preserved lemon, watercress and pickled red onion with blood orange dressing; or the duo of duck: drunken pot-roasted duck leg with parsnip cream, honey carrots and sangiovese jus, and duck breast glazed with brown butter with wilted greens and cognac-infused figs. Mondo is popular with vegetarians and vegans and has a weekend produce stall.

Mmmmmm Mondo!
Intimate dining with soft lighting & excellent service. I loved the double baked crab soufle and the ravioli but to be honest anything on the menu is delicious.

Mondo Rocks
Mondo is without doubt my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. I have been a regular since it opened in 2000 and it still delights me. Delicious organic meals, divine wines, delectable sweeties, aromatic coffee, ambient vibes - it all makes for a truly wonderful experience, every time. I particularly enjoy sitting in the courtyard by candlelight, listening to the smooth music, sharing a decadent dessert and sipping one of the luscious wines from the unique list - perhaps a silky Mt Rosa Pinot Noir or a mouth-watering Al Muvedre Monostrell. There is also gentle jazzy live music most Saturdays - how better to spend a long weekend lunch? Mondo is definately my restaurant of choice.

Relaxed fine dining
I can confidently say that Mondo Organics is a reliably good place for dinner, having been there several times. The menu is reasonably innovative and the ingredients are fresh (and organic of course). I would also like to see some more adventurous ingredients and menu options rather than the usual chicken, duck, lamb and beef. That's a minor complaint though. There are also wheat-free and vegetarian options. Serving sizes are ample - there's no need for an entree unless you especially want one.

I had the duck duo and, while the flavours were lovely (especially the cognac-infused figs and the silky potato mash), the duck was rather dry and overcooked and tough which was a disappointment and very out of character for Mondo. I assume it was a one-off.

My companions were happy with their choices - herb/spice-crusted lamb and Angus eye fillet, and the green vegetable side dish was lovely - big green beans and asparagus stalks cooked to retain freshness and crunch.

Dessert was lovely, I shared the Baci flour-free molten chocolate cake, and it was divine - melt in your mouth chocolate heaven cut through with a tart berry compote. My companion had the lemon cheesecake which was very lemony and obviously homemade. The food is all presented very beautifully and appetisingly.

The thing I really love about Mondo is the wine list - an exceptional (and reasonably extensive) range with every wine carefully chosen and quite a few more interesting types of wine such as sangiovese. There are also some bottles around the $35-$45 mark which is very reasonable - we had a lovely pinot noir. Basically there's something for everyone, and you won't be disappointed no matter what you choose.

The service and ambience are also very good - low romantic lighting and lots of cosy corners - there's an option to sit outside on a covered deck or inside the restaurant. Waitstaff are attentive and knowledgable without being intrusive. It's a relaxed and intimate yet sophisticated setting.

I would recommend Mondo Organics for a special night out (and I have also had a celebration lunch there which was equally nice). It's reasonably priced (especially with the 25% off deal offered by yourrestaurants.com.au) for a high quality dining experience. It can get very busy on Friday and Saturday nights (understandably), so it's best to book.

I can't believe no-one has reviewed this fine restaurant. This is the finest I've been to. I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All I can say is try it for yourself. Must have the potato cubes. Clearly my favourite restaurant.
