This place is a genuine Melbourne institution, and while it's not technically a restaurant, we felt its importance is such that it warrants a mention. Having been featured by the New York Times as a "must visit" destination in Melbourne, as well as being one of Tourism Australia's top 25 places to visit in Australia, Monarch sure has a big reputation for such a little cafe. It's been around for 75 years now, so they've well and truly perfected the art of cake making. It's pretty much just coffee and (you guessed it) cake here, but some of the locals would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at this place if they could. And can you blame them?
