Stepping into the shoes of the now defunct Svago and Baraka, Mister Bianco might seem like it has inherited a cursed site. However, with consummate professionals Joseph Vargetto and Silvio Sgarioto, owners of big brother Mezzo, Mr B is in safe hands.
Entering Kew's latest dining hotspot, you'll find a classic bistro set up. Dark-stained chairs, white paper over clothed tables and earthen hues complete the neutral, modern look.
Employing the bistro title also allows chef/owner Vargetto to cast his net wide in his culinary influences. Mister Bianco specialises in traditional southern Italian cuisine, but that doesn't stop outside influences - like a pan-fried snapper with tomato consomme or roast duck breast with licorice jus - from creeping into the offerings.
These forays into other cuisines may not get nonna's authentic tick of approval, but for a contemporary bistro in Melbourne's metropolitan eastern suburbs, they are right on the money.
