Miss Marmalade

Anyone with a penchant for gourmet brekkies, boutique coffee blends, wholesome lunch fare and freshly made cakes should instantly connect with this cosy, child-friendly Brunswick cafe. Miss Marmalade is inviting enough, with its sunny footpath tables, large brick-and-blackboard-walled interiors lit by quirky red-wired hanging lanterns, and a hidden lounge room with a fireplace and books far away from wintry weather.

Also bound to heat up your senses, the diverse brekkies range from orange and ricotta hotcakes to dukkah-spiced fried eggs, and artisan toasts with your chosen spread. Lunch is all about piadina, baguettes, burgers, soups and sandwiches done the hearty way.

Not a bad little cafe
Tucked away on Union Street, next door to a competing cafe and across the road from Penny Royal, Miss Marmalade is a cafe serving decent coffee and reasonably good fare. Brunch consisted of corn fritters with poached eggs, pesto and tomato braise. The fritters were a little doughy and at $14.90 were probably a little over priced. My partner ordered the big breakfast with mushrooms, tomato, avocado, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and toast ($16.90) and said it was great.
The cakes and biscuits in the display cabinet looked absolutely delicious as did some of the other offerings on the menu. I will definitely come back to try something else soon.
On a cold, crisp morning, the cafe's temperature could have been a little warmer which would make it a lot cosier. The customer service is prompt and polite.
Miss Marmalade certainly fills a gap in an area that might otherwise be considered a 'good' cafe wasteland.
