Nothing prepares you for the view when you round the final bend to Jarrahdale's Millbrook Winery and its cafe. The building stands majestically by a huge man-made lake, overlooking the vineyard, and if it wasn't for the breathtaking natural bush backdrop, you could easily mistake this for a modern chateau in the South of France.
Situated on the first floor, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the magnificent view, the cafe is light and airy with a high timber-clad ceiling and polished blackbutt floors. Sink into a black leather chair in the restaurant, or take a table out on the deck and pour over the exquisite choice of mod-Oz fare. The menu changes with the seasons to take full advantage of the local produce, including fresh marron from the winery's lake and fruit from the orchard.
The Millbrook tasting plate is a good place to start, offering a selection of continental meats, feta, eggplant kasundi, chorizo, kalamata olives and dips. For main course, you can't go wrong with the rosemary and garlic braised lamb shank, served with sweet potato, fresh broccolini and Millbrook Cabernet Merlot jus. And to finish there's the sinfully seductive bete noir rich chocolate tart, the Millbrook orchard mandarin creme brulee and homemade pavlova, to name a few.
Alternatively, you could order a Millbrook gourmet picnic basket and find your own private little spot by the lake. Understandably, the cafe's extremely popular, so bookings are essential.

Outstanding winery restaurant with views and food to match
I visited this popular winery restaurant based upon hearing recommendations from friends and the fact that it is advertised in the Entertainment Book.
Initial impressions were grand. Located some 50 minutes South-East of Perth in Jarrahdale, the restaurant and winery is on a huge block of lack surrounded by grass and a lake.
The bottom floor house the 'winery' with complimentary wine tasting. And unlike other wineries, the wines are good with several gold-medal winning wines including the Millbrook Sauvignon Blanc and the Cabernet Malbec. The viognier limited release is also a fantastic example of the variety.
Upstairs is the restaurant. Again, exemplary friendly service so hard to find in Perth restaurants nowadays. After a courteous greeting, we were led to our booked table overlooking the grand lake view.
Food servings are very generous and easily feed one person. The Red Emperor fillets of which there were two were perfectly well cooked, tender and succulent. Lying on a simple potato and herb mash.
Entree was also of a similar standard.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for those looking for a romantic afternoon out and don't mind the drive to get there!
