Italian nosheries are dotted around Hutt Street like pepperoni on pizza, with Milano Cucina further boosting their numbers. A wide-screen television confirms this as a casual spot, though redeeming features include stitched leather chairs and vases of fabulous pink oriental lilies. The room smartens up at night with navy blue linen and candles on every table.
The generous menu looks after diners at all hours of the day. Treat yourself to a morning kick start of French toast with maple syrup. As breakfast flows into lunch and dinner, the menu offers classic antipasti alongside pizzas, pastas and Italian mains. Try a trio of fried calamari, whitebait and soft shell crab with chilli and lime aioli. Fresh buffalo mozzarella is pleasingly combined with truss tomato, Coriole Winery olives, prosciutto, basil and sprinkles of good oil. Cheese lovers will melt over the chargrilled haloumi; or white polenta and baby spinach dipped in a fondue of gorgonzola with wafts of white truffle.
When you have eaten your spinach you may have a dessert pizza. Sliced pear with raspberry sauce tops the list, alongside white chocolate cups filled with gelato and ganache.
