This little, back-alley restaurant is hard to find, even by Melbourne standards. The former pensioners' club turned Greek restaurant is inside Oakleigh Market, up the ramp, across the car park and behind a nondescript door in the back, right-hand corner.
If you can find this veritable needle in a haystack, then prepare for Hellenic bliss. Mezedakia's secretive location and modest decor belie the feast of home-style Greek cuisine on offer here. The menu is delivered verbally by the owner and chef, Maria Krontiris, or her daughter, Ioanna, and consists of whatever is fresh from the neighbouring markets or growing in Maria's garden, and the serving sizes are big enough that they ask whether you've been eating properly at home without the matriarch of the kitchen having to do it herself.
