Mez is delightfully housed on a corner block in Northbridge, overlooking Russell Square. The space is light and airy, with more than half the tables housed in a semi-alfresco area - windows fold back to let in the breeze and maximise the view of the square's parklands. Run by the husband-and-wife team of Sotos and Noni Christofides, Mez provides home-cooked Mediterranean food using recipes bequeathed by Noni's Cypriot family.
The restaurant takes its name from the Greek word 'mezze', meaning nibbles, so it's no surprise that the house special is the mezze feast - a large range of small, traditional tasting dishes that are made to be shared. This is a good way to sample many of Mez's dishes, offering a feast of dips, hot pita bread, haloumi, grilled sausage and a range of seafood and meats, including the house specialty, lamb kleftiko. They are very strict about only using the freshest produce here, so the menu varies according to the seasonal availability of ingredients. Mez is fully licensed, offering a selection of wines from small West Australian vineyards.
