A Sandy Bay institution, this popular meeting spot is where locals go for a wicked wood-fired pizza, an afternoon tipple or a weekend big brekkie. Affectionately known as 'The Metz', Metz on the Bay offers a wide selection of tapas, entrees, mains, desserts, salads, drinks and 'in-betweens'. The modern Australian menu shows signs of international invasion, with various pastas like the penne gorgonzola, tapas tidbits like the Moroccan lamb skewers, and mains like the confit of duck. But it's the woodfired pizzas that are the crowning glory with their top ingredients and flavours, as with the smoked Tasmanian salmon woodfired pizza with rocket pesto, lilliput capers and brie. Dance it off with live music from DJs Sundays, or simple unwind with a drink by the bar.

Busy Bustling Sandy Bay Bistro
Metz, the components that make this place so popular are; corner situation, large el fresco areas, over looking both streets. Very popular with young people, who love the vibe, the buzz, the wide selection of excellent dishes, accompanied by great value prices. Eg Wed night special, $10 pizza from their fabulous new wood fired oven. Along with a varied menu, plus their nightly specials. Ideal for functions, parties, reunions, or just meet and greet, wine and dine. Inside the decor is slick, modern, comfortable and relaxing. Our choices were, the special, seared Cape Grim strip loin, gruyere potato croquette, grilled baby cos lettuce & buerre blanc. Roasted duck Maryland, crispy duck leg served with Waldorf salad. Both were excellently prepared and presented, very tasty. Enjoyed the local Tasmanian wines with our dinner. Desserts, baked cheese cake with a berry compote, and poached pears in red wine. Very satisfying. The service, for the amount of people waited on, was amazing, which compliments the experience. We have reserved a table to enjoy a beer and a pizza next Wednesday evening. Couldn't resist.
