Port Fairy continues to punch above its weight, with another restaurant joining the fine-dining ranks. Chef and owner Ryan Sessions has already developed a solid reputation in the area; his cooking at Portofino on Bank made the restaurant a gourmet destination for visitors to the attraction-packed Shipwreck Coast. The Merrijig is his first venture, combining his contemporary cuisine with the old-fashioned elegance of the quaint cottage guesthouse in which it is served. The dining room is cosy and intimate, heavily laden with the history of the comparatively antique building. If it's possible, the conservatory carries an even greater whimsical charm, with sunlight streaming onto the black-and-white tiled floor and French doors opening onto the cottage gardens. Sessions' Mediterranean-inspired menu changes every few weeks, with nightly specials keeping things fresh for any long-staying guests.
