Mends Street Cafe

Sitting mid-way down South Perth's main eating thoroughfare, the Mends Street Cafe is a takeaway coffee oasis for weekday commuters on their way to the ferry, while proprietor Maurice also welcomes guests for more substantial fare all day, every day.

The breakfast menu has enough quick meals to fulfill the needs of time-poor business people looking for a slice of raisin toast on the run, while also including more decadent cooked breakfast fare. The cafe's proximity to many of the area's new luxury apartments sees it packed on weekends with local residents enjoying leisurely brunches.

The all-day menu has a good gourmet sandwich selection, making it a popular spot for a weekday lunch. Dinner is a casual affair, with a seasonal menu of modern Australian food, including a large dollop of Italian and Mediterranean flavours appearing in the range of pastas and hearty salads. Mends Street Cafe cleverly extends its small indoor area by using clear plastic sidewalls, a welcome protection during Perth's winters when it's just a bit too cool to go properly alfresco.

Wouldn't recommend ever
Terrible service. The cafe had less than half maximum occupancy yet my table still had to wait half an hour for our meals. Dishes we ordered was the scotch fillet and the barramundi. The scotch fillet was overpowered by the gravy and so was the barramundi. The vegetable side dish was overcooked, and the barramundi though fresh was overcooked. Not tender at all. The waiting service was also horrible. Definitely wouldn't visit again.

Value for money
Great restaurant! They give real value for money. The food portions are perfect and match the price. If you eat there try and thai curry prawns or the chicken fettucini. Great service too!
