This casual, Bollywood-style diner offers the sort of food you would find on a Delhi street stall or Bombay sweet house. Great prices and a laidback atmosphere make this a great place to enjoy some real Indian cuisine.

The Food Princess and her friends are regulars at Mela, having enjoyed several catch ups and special occasions over weekend chaat , but the last few visits have failed to impress.
We dined out on a Monday night and the restaurant was relatively busy, but no where near full capacity. For starters we ordered the bohti kebab, a new addition to the revamped and more extensive Mela menu. Our mains consisted of prawn Malabar, lamb vindaloo, garlic naans and steamed rice.
The bohti kebab arrived sizzling and was very tasty, with just the right balance of spice and tenderness in the lamb. The prawns were generous in numbers, but slightly salty, whilst the vindaloo was laden with salt, which unfortunately overpowered the entire dish and made for a rather disappointing curry. This (Indian) Food Princess and her friends who know a thing or two about curries made a point of informing the kitchen staff that the vindaloo was far too salty, but were told bluntly that the chef thought it was fine and refused to listen to our valuable feedback. And here I thought the customer was always right?
So whilst the menu has expanded, the food and attention to detail has sadly declined at this old favourite and Mela seems to have lost its magic.

Street food...
I was really impressed with the Paneer Dosa I had at lunch. Delicious. Service was a little slow. Thumbs up for gluten-free options!

Ignorance is bliss!
Unfortunately, like most Indian restaurants in Perth, another on the list of average Indian food. Curries were bland, without much authenticity but just a mixture of curry powder and meats. The neighbouring tables seemed to enjoy the food though. I hope people try their best to find out alot more about this delicious cuisine as Indian restaurateurs are getting away with average food at exorbitant prices.
