Don't let the laminex and the television screen put you off; this small restaurant is renowned for its delicious Vietnamese food. The spring rolls are always popular but the real winner here is the pho - a broth served over rice noodles and meat, served with bean shoots, chilli, lemon and mint. Mekong is frequently packed with students from the nearby university, all squashing in to embrace the refreshingly cheap yet satisfying meals.

Pho
Having just returned from Vietnam and eating Pho every morning for breakfast, we werent disapointed with the Pho at Mekong. Staff were friendly and prompt and we would definately go back.

Quintessential Vietnamese...lino floors and all!
I've grown up eating in places just like this that are so abundant in Asian hubs like Springvale and Box Hill. The "ambience" is not to everyone's liking, but it's cheap, the serves are huge, and the pho is pretty good when you're paying altogether not much.
I've given 2 stars for service, but ultimately this isn't the kind of place you come for service. Also 3 for atmosphere because it isn't to everyone's liking. However, if you like filling, tasty and cheap Vietnamese in the city, Mekong is very hard to go past.
