When it is the flavours of Japan that you crave but your finances won't make room for what is usually a high-priced dining adventure, head to the Meiji Japanese Cafe in Dickson.
Entrees start at just $2.90 and a plate of full-flavoured and fresh sashimi goes for a reasonable $13.90. The usual suspects of Japanese fare like tempura, gyoza and soba all appear on the menu for you to graze upon while taking up residence in Meiji's modern and tastefully decorated dining room.

Well kept secret
My partner and I keep coming back to this place as we both love Japanese, but hate the high price that is usually associated with it!
Meiji is extremely well priced and great value and quality. The sashimi is always fresh and the entrees and mains are lovely. My favourites include the Hotate Butayaki (Scallop dish) and the eel hotpot.
The miso soup is much too weak and flavourless for me, but is very well priced and might be nice if you prefer a milder broth.
The decor is traditional Japanese cafe style, which I find charming.
The service is a bit hit and miss there. The girls don't speak good english, but if you are encountering a language barrier, speak to the chef - he is fluent in both english and Japanese and will be able to help.
All in all, a wonderful restaurant which we regularly travel from south side to eat at. Definitely recommend if you like Japanese cuisine.

Really great healthy food at a very reasonable cost.
I usually have miso soup, agedash, salmon sushi and with the avocado drink and that's really healthy and very cheap. I also take home some rolls and salmon sushi and it works out to be time saving and easy. The atmosphere is cheerful and busy.

Great sushi, good service
Fresh, tasty and decorative sushi made before your eyes, good choice of platters and friendly service. Will come back again! Just a note that the wasabi was very mild, which is great for me but may not suit everyone.

great price with great food
My fiance and I have made Meiji a regular eat out place. We think it's definitely worth a try, the food is fresh, the prices are great and although staff are very young they try the best, so give them a break :-). The chef is absolutely excellent. Really nice place and nice people as well.

Tasty and good value
My husband and I think this is a great place if you want a casual dinner/lunch or takeaway. Really great value, clean, the food is very tasty and the best thing about Menji is that they try different things such as the "Happy Birthday" sushi cake. All the bento boxes are highly recommended. Great fried tofu entree. Also, very FRESH. I find the other places like Shogun, Iori and Wasabi don't taste as fresh as Meiji.

Very tasty, reasonable and traditional Japanese food
I had a sashimi lunch set, which was very tasty with good sashimi and a variety of other Japanese delicacies. We found Meiji to be very reasonable, with great traditional Japanese flavours and very attentive, polite service. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere. There are also some great Japanese drinks available.
