Despite Melbourne's common claim to fame as Australia's cultural capital, it offers surprisingly little in the way of genuinely authentic Thai food. Me Dee is one such exception, with ingredients and recipes lifted straight from the streets of Bangkok. Nopparit Banpot, better known as Oudy, runs the place with his aunt Sompong. Together they have created an atmosphere that draws in customers who wish to experience what proper Thai food is all about, as well as Thais who crave some real cooking from home, such as their famous garlic pepper stir fries.
