An exotic little place tucked away in the heart of the bustling Gouger Street food district, Maya Masala has been carving out a reputation for itself over the past decade as one of the best Indian restaurants around. The fragrant, fresh cuisine has North and South Indian, Tandoori, Mughlai and Kashmiri cuisine covered, and is the only restaurant in South Australia to offer all these varieties. The gentle hum of a warm and lively restaurant greets you upon entry into Maya Masala, and the buzz of the place is fuelled by great service and a warm and homely atmosphere. The crowning glory of any visit here has to be ending the meal with one of the house-made desserts - sweets being the Maya Masala specialty and what this place has really become a favourite for.

Great as always
There were a few walk-ins as well as a full restaurant already for dinner. The staff were lovely and all beautiful smiles. The service got a bit slow but only because they could have used an extra pair of hands, they were busy all at once.
The food was fabulous as always and we're planning a return trip next month with friends. This is more than a great dinner venue after the markets, this is a whole lot of great food (the Thali is delicious)and a lovely vibe to go to dinner with friends to.
Per 2, I recommend you order a few entree's and then share the thali (tasting plates). Try and save room for their spectacular desserts! Oh and you can BYO but they have a really good wine list to choose from.

Pretty good
We went and had a dosa tonight. Was my first experience, and it was delicious. My partner has been to India before and she loved it too.
Service was good, but it's only a Tuesday night.
Last time I went we had the thali, which was great.
Better places for curry in Adelaide, so go there for the dosa I reckon.

Not for us!!!
Very disapointing. Service was friendly from the waiter/waitress. Food was terrible. Meat was fatty and dishes were tasteless. Pointed out fatty meat to staff, management only offered a 10% discount ($6!) to compensate.

Thali for your tummy
Second visit at this family-run Indian restaurant. I think it has been here for a long time which shows a bit in decor but is clearly popular with locals (and local Indians). Good selection of meals - the dosa and thalis are great if you have travelled in southern India. Thali comes with 3 or 4 different dishes, rice, naan, raita and is really filling. We didn't get bothered by the waiters - a little frustating when you want a second drink though. Huge selection of authentic sweets to choose from too.
