Big Beverage Menu - light on their coffee
Being a chocoholic who is easily overwhelmed by a huge menu selection, I dared myself to enter Max Brenner's. Looks great, decor is good. Lots of chocolates and chokkie goodies on offer.
I wasn't there for a huge chocolate overdose, just a coffee and something sweet, a little indulgent and not too hard on the hip pocket.
Service was good. Pretty standard, with the young girl behind the counter smiling and obviously eager to do a good job.
I finally decided to order a coffee and a chunky chocolate cookie that are in jars on the front counter.
I took my seat by the window. My coffee was brought to me with a HUGE plate... where my cookie sat surrounded by drizzles of chocolate. It looked great!
And in all, I would have enjoyed it - except: There was hardly any coffee to speak of. It came out in a coffee cup that would have been better suited to espresso. Meaning - the amount of coffee I had in my cup was hardly worth the money I paid. It wasn't great coffee either. Hot enough, but not hot like good coffee should be.
Since I was there to sample at least one of the chocolate goodies, I looked forward to sampling the cookie. Now, it was on a big plate and I had a fork. We're talking cookie. I had to somehow use the fork to break the cookie up without sending it flying all over the place. I managed to achieve this by following the cracks in the cookie. So the cookie was not rock hard, yet for the moistness of it, it was bland, no specific outstanding flavour and overall, if it weren't for the chocolate drizzles it was quite boring.
I don't know what I expected - but for a chocolate bar (cafe), I did expect to be mouthwateringly impressed.
For the expensive coffee and bland chok cookie I paid around $7 and did not think this was worth the money at all.
Sorry - not a place I'll rush back to for my coffee and chocolate hit.
