Small in size but capable of eliciting a spark, Matchbox Cafe is a sleek modern space in a side street terrace a mere stone's throw from the madding crowds of Kings Cross. Matchbox is equally suited to pulling up a perch on the timber deck with a De Lorenzo latte, or digging into a generous serve of a Double Pete: a double smoked ham and Gruyere cheese sandwich, grilled on brown toast in a deep plate, topped with a fried egg. A wall of mirrors inside lets you check if there are seeds stuck in your teeth after demolishing their yoghurt and berries with honey, or assess whether your outfit matches up to what's being worn by the fashionistas who frequent.
