Just down the pretty main street of Glenbrook, in between the kooky old second hand store and the leafy train station, is the quaint Mash Cafe. Set just off the street, the cafe is located in an old cottage on a green lawn. With an open fireplace in winter and a peaceful al fresco area for summer, the cafe will provide a comfortable dining experience. And the best part is, they're a business with a conscience, serving fair trade tea, coffee and chocolate and donating an amount from each burger sold to their local library. They're also big on recycling, eco packaging, using local and organic produce as well as operating on a carbon neutral level. Much more than sausages and mash, the menu is full of interesting, quality dishes such as lentil and caramelized fennel cakes with a horseradish cream; or the slow roasted Berkshire pork, with cumquat relish and butternut pumpkin.
