The wine list here is as staggering as the list of awards this classy East-meets-West restaurant has received. Aspiring to the ideals of Marco Polo himself, this uber-contemporary fine diner operates with ambition, imagination and love of the exotic, priding itself on unprecedented freshness, as is evident with the stellar selection of live seafood: from oysters natural with lime and lemongrass, to live Tasmanian lobster fried with ginger and shallots.
Tofu lovers will adore the deep fried silken tofu with bean shoots, peanut and sweet soy; if you're more of a meat person, try the delicious black angus beef tenderloin with black bean salsa and shiitake dumplings. The dessert menu is a triumph of classics with an Eastern twist, from the water chestnut and palm sugar pudding with black sesame ice cream and berries, to the gorgeous chocolate souffle with Szechuan pepper ice cream and winter fruits.

Not too bad
Dinner at Marco Polo was a bit of a mixed experience. The food was very tasty (apart from the spring onion fritters which were literally battered, deep fried stick of spring onion) however there was just too much! It does mean that Marco Polo is very good value for money, although so much of it went to waste as the portions are just massive. My duck pancake entree would be considered main course sized at most restaurants, so I struggled to get through my main of rib on the bone with a beautiful X.O sauce. The duck was nice, just a bit overcooked and not enough cucumber was served with it. The wine list is also very good, and service was efficient, if not overly friendly. What lets Marco Polo down is the surroundings; great chairs, but awful tables (that have a soft and squishy top which makes it difficult to cut steak without your plate tilting). I will return to try some other items on the menu though, but might share an entree next time.
