Manhattan's describes itself as a 'fusion eatery', and indeed that's just what it is, melding a New York cafe decor that is apparently replicated in the Big Apple itself with an Asian-themed menu that showcases the kitchen's penchant for kangaroo. Chef and owner Michael Pang arrived from Singapore nearly a decade ago and after training as a chef at a local cooking school, bought the restaurant so that he could introduce his own style of cuisine to the good people of East Perth. His specialty, kangaroo fillets, is dusted with paprika and herbs, and comes in a tangy barbecue-style sauce that offsets the heaviness of the meat nicely. He also does a mean garlic prawns with mushrooms. The clientele is a mixed bag of city sharks, local residents from the surrounding streets and tourists curious to taste one of the country's national emblems. Being in the CBD, the restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch, with the weekend offering an all-day breakfast menu for those who like to rise a little later than usual.
