Mamak Corner

Nestled unassumingly in the Garran Place shops, this friendly Asian eatery serves very affordable Malaysian and Chinese cuisine that keeps the locals coming back time and time again. Most noteworthy are the traditional laksas, as well as Malaysian curries such as beef rendang, and spicy assam and sambal seafood. For those who prefer Chinese flavours, Mamak Corner also does Chinese specialties such as Hainanese chicken rice, and hot rock salted calamari.

OK but crowded
We had 4 for dinner at a small table 30 cm from the table next to us. This is too close for me so if you dont like to eat cheek by jowl with strangers book for 7.30 to 8.00 as the patrons thin out rapidly after 7.30.
You might be lucky

Probably the closest you get to authentic Malaysian food in the Berra
I admit: We come here time and again - and maybe that colours my review, but then: We have a good reason to come back. Mamak Corner, an unambitious little neighbourhood joint at the Garran shops with the atmosphere of a family- run laundry palour, serves some of the best Malaysian food in Canberra - if you like authenticity.

The one poor waitress is always super busy and not always attentive to your needs, but we find us using the extra minutes to find another interesting dish on the extensive menu. No "specials of the day" here but most things are pretty special.
Bring a bottle of wine (it's BYO) and your friends and embark on a culinary journey while you plan for your next journey and look forward to an excellent sample of tasty Malaysian street food.

Highly recommended - though I shouldn't write this. This little place is getting crowded, but in a good way and they deserve their success.

great dining experience
The staff and owners are friendly and attentive. The moderate prices and warm atmosphere encourage sampling the tantalising tastes of Malaysia.

Highly recommend for Malaysian cuisines!
I came here with a few friends last week for dinner and we all enjoyed the food very much. We ordered the banquet menu as we could not decide on our menu choices (banquet included entrees and a few main dishes including Char Kuew Teow, beef rendang and hot rock salted calamari). Another friend ordered seafood laksa for his meal. The food was delicious and the staff were efficient and kept making sure that we were satisfied with the food. The Malaysian dishes were superb. Will come back again.
