A sign on the main Broadway strip points you towards Malacca Straits, a Malaysian-Thai restaurant that is tucked away from the traffic and crowds of the city, yet is still close to public transport, shops and the universities. Something of a hidden gem, Malacca Straits has many loyal regulars who come for the cheap prices and above all, the strikingly authentic Malaysian laksas and Thai hawker-style noodles. Malay food enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of sambal (a spicy sauce dish) and assam (a seafood-based style of laksa) among the many traditional elements here.
