Far from referring to one of Sydney's eastern beaches, this eatery is named for the Malabar region of southern India and aims to introduce Sydneysiders to the lighter cuisine from this area. The cosy space is cheery and atmospheric, with brightly painted walls and an enormous photograph of an Indian streetscape printed onto one wall. The menu is accessible to even the most uninitiated, with every dish comprehensively described. Dishes might include a lamb kurumah (described as the lighter southern equivalent of a khorma), or tiger prawns with Malabar peppercorns and a red onion and tomato relish.
