While Lygon Street is synonymous with Italian food, not all of Carlton restaurants cater to the pasta- and pizza-obsessed. In fact, there are a couple of neat Japanese eateries in the area that do a fine job of providing value-for-money and flavoursome fare. Makodo Sushi Bar is one such place, a popular haunt for the local student population and anybody else looking for a cheap and filling bite. There's fried udon noodles, mixed sushi, California rolls, sashimi, bento boxes and gigantic group-friendly platters to have you really turning Japanese.
