All that remains of the old Magic City fun parlour is the colourful pinball sign suspended from the building's facade. The interior, however, hints at a story of intriguing transformation, with bare tables, warm light, and a rustic bare-brick wall with an open fireplace. The food drifts seamlessly between Thai and modern Australian flavours.

Best restaurant in Camberwell
We really enjoyed all the food, you can taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients and the thought that has gone into the dishes. Our particular favourites were the calamari starter and the caramel semifreddo and banana marshmalow desert. Warm and friendly service and smart decor added to our enjoyment, overall a lovely night out and good to see a modern stylish venue with fabulous food making it to Camberwell

Nice place, average food
I found no problem with the service or the timing of the food, although we did find the food a touch on the cold side temperature-wise. The decor is really lovely. Whilst the food was OK it wasn't anything great considering the prices are not below average. My husband thought the best dish of the night was the pork belly entree. Wouldn't really recommend any of the other dishes we had, except to say stay away from the salted chocolate fudge sundae.

Sensational food and service, a new favourite of ours!
Following an average experience previously, my partner and I returned to Magic City on our anniversary - a busy Friday night - having heard good things from family friends. After our 6pm movie, the restaurant was close to full and we had forgotten to book ahead. We took up an offer to wait for a table to become available, and my wife and i shared some lovely pre-dinner cocktails in their wine bar area. we were rather entertained by a young Kiwi bartender demonstrating his accomplished bottle and glass juggling abilities. Soon after we were seated by our ever-grinning waiter, who gave us top service all night. the wine list was comprehensive, and we spoke to an in-house wine specialist to help find what we were looking for. Our orders came out a tad slowly, but the food was absolutely sensational, (and no matter how full you may feel, always leave room for their desserts). The main, a barramundi dish, was no less than stunning! at all times our waiter kept us on our toes with his quick wit and humour. The staff are very friendly and relaxed, but always courteous and professional, and really set the tone for the evening. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was warm and trendy. Hopefully Magic City holds on to their staff, for they are certainly the stars of the restaurant. I would suggest booking ahead to avoid missing out.

What a difference in service!
I wanted to say that I was here a couple of years ago and even though the food has always been consistent, the service has had its highs and lows. Tonight I dined here again after not being back for the last few months and I must say that service has been absolutely impeccable. The waiters and staff were not only friendly and perceptive, (my friend was in a wheelchair and we were given a table in the corner near the lovely fireplace) but the coffees and hot chocolates came with tiny little chocolate things. When it came time for my friend to order the hot chocolate, we were asked what flavour! Wanted to let everyone know that we thoroughly enjoyed the night and will be back again very soon!

Just Average
I'd read about the restaurant in the Age Good Food Guide and thought it sounded promising. I've had much better food for a lot less dollars in un-known eateries around Melbourne. I felt the dishes were over-priced and they did not deliver the description on the menu. Whilst it was edible it sure wasn't memorable. The service was so so.The wait for drinks seemed to be forever!! On the whole, an average experience, with a hefty bill at the end of the night.

Could do better
The food may "drift seamlessly between pan-Asian, European and Middle Eastern flavours", but sadly the service just drifts aimlessly.
The friendly waiter brought drinks promptly, but thereafter it was downhill with too long a wait to bring menus, take our order. They also had to be reminded to tell us the specials. The wine was forgotten until half way through the main course, and the staff were too busy to catch to remind them.
Food was OK. Perhaps we chose poorly, but what we had was sound rather than great - or even interesting for that matter.
A good enough local let down by too few floor staff.
