There's no sand, seaweed or bolshie seagulls, but Maestral nonetheless brings a little bit of the seaside to landlocked Canberrans. This small and welcoming restaurant is evocative of the tiny seafood-focused eateries of Croatia - a resemblance compounded by the Mediterranean-inspired menu. The dishes offer a broad range of Australian seafood, from several reef and beef combos to simple grilled sardines. For those with a big seafood appetite and a couple of similarly inclined friends, the Adriatic platter offers a mouth-watering array of briny morsels. On the meatier side of the menu, there is a selection of distinctly Croatian meals, bursting with hearty sausages and smallgoods.

Just like they say
Visiting this restaurant after a long break, I wish I had not been so dilatory. It is one of the few places in Canberra where you can get a selection of whole fish. We had King George Whiting from SA, oysters and scollops. All were beatifully presented and tasty. The restaurant is small and not particularly suitable for big parties. Book to be sure.
I will be returning more regularly, especially when Garfish are in season (just missed out apparently)
