The Portuguese island of Madeira may be as far-flung as you can get from Australia, so it's comforting to know you can try traditional Portuguese cuisine done Madeira-style right here in the beachside surrounds of Brighton. Run by Luis and Maria De Sousa, Madeira Restaurant offers a friendly environment for families, groups and couples looking to explore their inner Portuguese chicken. While chargrilled chicken with peri peri sauce is on the menu here, the signature dishes are the espetadas - chargrilled meats on skewers with a traditional Madeiran barbecue sauce, served with chips and salad. These are available in rump, eye fillet, chicken, lamb and even kangaroo varieties, so don't be afraid to let those tastebuds go walkabout.
