Across the road from Trinity Beach is one of the great, exciting Italian restaurants of far north Queensland. Having relocated here many years ago from Sydney, L'Unico boasts not only an interesting menu, but one of the best ranges of pizzas in the local area. The pasta list covers both traditional and more exploratory varieties and includes their signature penne cigale e avocado - bugs and avocado in a light rosa sauce. Seafood dominates on the menu (in pastas and main dishes) as well as in the daily specials, all of which underscore the freshness and quality of the local produce.
As well as the cavernous interior, there is lovely deck on the front overlooking the beach and a private little veranda off to one side for more intimate dining. The service is good, if slightly eclectic, and the L'Unico team seem to pride themselves on their professionalism, as well as their relaxed tropical style. Though it would be an admirably innovative restaurant in any location, in this gorgeous setting L'Unico definitely deserves to be as popular as it is.
