One word..... fantastic!
On a weekend getaway in the city, my partner and I decided on Saturday night to venture to Lygon St for some tasty Italian cuisine. Having already been to a couple of restaurants in the strip on previous occasions, we were keen to see what other Lygon St restaurants had to offer.

We wandered past a few options and over to Locusta. The menu was immediately tempting and very mouth-watering. With no reservation, we immediately got a cosy table for two.

We started with a lovely glass of red and a refreshing serving of bruscetta. For entree, my partner had the quail (Quaglia Grigliata) while I went for the calamari (Calamari Fritti). Both were just fantastic, presented beautifully and to die for! For the main, we both settled on the Manzo al Mare (aka Reef & Beef, again beautifully presented)...and again....it was fantastic. Both of our steaks were ordered medium-rare and were cooked to perfection and accompanied by succulent scallops, prawns and a portion of crab in a beautiful sauce. Dessert followed with a lusciously creamy tiramisu, while my partner opted for fresh strawberries and stregga...Again both were to die for!

In all the food was magnificently presented with contemporary flair. Some dishes may be a little more expensive than others in the Lygon strip, however the dishes we ordered were well worth it and I would pay for them again! Each serving was well portioned and the service was excellent, helpful and very friendly. We noticed that other tables, whether seating two, four or more all received their meals at the same time, rather than a dish as ready (as some other restaurants tend to do these days). This was also nice to see and added to a lovely atmosphere.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and I can't wait to go back again!

DISGUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looked forward to having lunch with my family today. Firstly, we booked restaurant and arrived there and we were told differently. Anyway sat down and ordered our meals. To our disappointment the food was overly priced, nothing on your plate to eat (ordered pasta with avocado and scallops, but the avocado was bitter and disgusting) and management was right down rude. We left the place as hungry as when we got there. Never again will I frequent the place.

We were extremely disappointed by this restaurant and would never go back. The service was appalling. It took two hours to get our meals. The explanations from the staff were woeful. They ranged from a new chef to our steak being cooked well-done, to a shift change. There were definitely problems in the kitchen and the worst thing was the awful job at apologising. The steak was sent back as it was not cooked properly. The manager got into an argument with us about it and re-served the same steak, which was not wanted. The seafood stew was not as described in the menu. There were no prawns and half the mussels were served unopened. Overall, a terrible experience.

Hit and Miss
Great quality food, and I was served by several of the friendliest young waitresses to be found in Carlton. My only issue was with an older man who appeared to be the boss, who was charming to us (as many spruikers on this end of Lygon St are), but unnecessarily and publically rude to his junior staff. I had been talking to one earlier, who had mentioned most were students or backpackers. Despite this, their service was extremely friendly, attentive and professional. Their boss's conduct was uncalled for and made for a bit of an unpleasant dining atmosphere.

Otherwise, I highly recommend Locusta for its wonderful seafood meals (we shared beautiful bruschetta and a generous seafood platter), and friendly waitstaff.

One of the best in Lygon St
I am not usually one to go to Lygon Street, but Friday the 24th I was wrapped. Started off with drinks and garlic bread then had some garlic prawns for entree, now these prawns were as big as the plate, fresh and better than anything I can remember having in the last 6 months. I had a Porterhouse steak that was cooked to perfection, light sauce and enough serving to make you more than happy. The service is brilliant, the vibe is great and the owner was wonderful and more than helpful. I loved it and I will be back.
