Simply the place to be in West End
I am not a typical 'Ilovewritingreviews' type of guy, but sometimes it's seems like the least one can do when wanting to share the uniqueness of one's experience with the world.

I have recently realised that, just as West End is the unique part of Brisbane, such is Lock'n'Load in comparison to many venues I dined in during my 1.5 year stay in Brisvegas. It may be because I am European (as if it made any difference 8-), but the vibe is just so awesome!!! Savoring the tasting platter while listening to the tunes of a live band, me and my prettier part couldn't have found a better place to enjoy the mid-afternoon Sunday avo's sun --- sipping jugs of Sangria only added up to the atmosphere - felt like home away from home!!!

Big thumbs up for that venue. Great food and very cool staff, by the way 8-)

West End Oasis
This place is fantastic! I regularly go to West End in Brisbane, it is a funky area- kinda like Fitzroy in Melbourne. It has the coolest vibe, often live music going on. It does get busy, but staff are always friendly and attentive I've found. Food is reasonably priced and menu changes every few months- always good quality for the range. Great cocktails and good wine and beer selection. FunkyTown!

Four of us there for dinner and drinks. Great food, I had the prawn pasta dish - nice. Oh, and the chocolate browine dessert was fantastic.

Do not go to this place on Mother's Day!
Lost our 10am booking - made us wait 1/2 hour before finding a table to fix their stuff up. Told us we could sit at the table but had to be gone before 12pm (for the next booking arrived) - took them another 30-45 mins for them to take our order & for drinks to arrive. Food finally arrived at 11.30am and we had to scoff down our food for the 12pm deadline even though the 12pm booking showed up 15 mins early and stood over us waiting for their table! They also missed 3 items off the plate for the big breakfast. No apologies or discount or free drinks offered.

Good idea, terrible service
I took friends there for a drink on a Saturday afternoon into evening. Would take a minimum of 10 minutes to get served at the bar as only one bar staff on.

Sitting out the back is nice but we were asked to move three times as the table we were sitting at had just been booked. One of the waitresses just 'slapped' down the reserved card on our tables and told us we needed to move. Service needs a lot more of an improvement before I take another group of people back.

Secret garden
Literally stumbled on this place and what a find! My friend & I were walking down the main street of West End last Sunday looking for somewhere to go for brunch - all the other places in the street were either closed or you had to sit crowded into a small space or out on the footpath (not my cup of tea to be having food out with the traffic of people & cars). The courtyard out the back was the perfect area for a leisurely Sunday brunch - it was a very relaxed & peaceful atmosphere & vibe. The menu not only had a good range but was also very reasonable in price! Not to mention the food was well presented and tasted great. The staff were also very attentive and friendly. A wonderful find - will definitely make the effort to go back there soon - would love to try the place for dinner and/or lunch

Great night out!
My friends and I had dinner this weekend and I must say Lock 'n' Load handles big groups very well. We were a group of 18 and I was very satisfied with the service and they didn't make us wait for ages for our meals as many other places do. There's a buzz at Lock 'n' Load that I love and it has an unpretentious atmosphere. Everyone was satisfied with their food, except for the boys who thought the portions could have been bigger. The staff were very friendly and accomodating even though the place was busy, so I hope they can keep up the good work. The live music also gives it another great element to the atmosphare. I will definitely be back for more and recommend it especially for large groups. Kudos to Lock 'n' Load!

What a great place!
We went along on a Saturday night to a party. The plan was for us to be outside but the rain spoiled that. Our host made the upsairs available for us and the night kicked on. Great venue, great music mixed by a DJ and the food from the set menu was very good. A little gem hidden in West End. A great night.

Deceptively informal
Lock n Load is a nice place to go for a relaxed dinner before heading out to a bar or show. The food is reasonably priced and although not very innovative, very nicely prepared and cooked. I had a perfectly cooked piece of salmon. My friend had the duck salad in entree size and it turned out to be almost big enough for a main meal which was a pleasant surprise. We shared a yummy chocolate dessert. The wine list was adequate - a bigger range would have been good.

The service is friendly and relaxed, and the atmosphere is that of an upmarket pub or beer garden, which would make it good for parties or larger groups, I'd imagine. There is live music inside, which is fine, but it's probably not the place for an intimate romantic dinner - I almost think they could spruce the dining area up a bit just to make it a bit more inviting and comfortable, and less like a suburban pub - the food is certainly of a higher quality than you might imagine from looking around. Despite this, Lock n Load is certainly a great place to have a few drinks and grab a bite to eat before hitting the streets of West End.

Lock n Load
We started the night having a drink in the bar, sitting at the window overlooking the street and people watching. The bar has an awesome selection of cocktails and serves cold Coopers on tap. For dinner we ate in the beer garden at the back of the restaurant (deceptive from the street - this place is big. The garden area would be great for a party function). A funky band was playing and apparently the live music is always good here. The food was great - fresh Mediterranean flavours at reasonable prices, and the service was attentive without being over the top. Overall a great night out.
