Unimpressive
Lo Studio strikes me as another one of Sydney's plethora of disappointing Italian restaraunts bar Bon Riccord(sic) and Lucio's..any others please?. Style over substance, rushed yet inattentive service and ordinary food at exorbitant prices. Why does Melbourne leave us for a dead in the Italian market? Our meal consisted of dry lifeless arancini, seafood pasta in a bag and the special of the day a sickly sweet covered lamb backstrap. Sorry but I can't recommend.

A complete embarassment
I took an overseas visitor to this restaurant in an attempt to impress. What a mistake! The lighting and decor was dull and the atmosphere was non-existent. Our antipasto was ordered after our cocktails but delivered before. 25 mins for an aperitif is a long time to wait and they should NEVER come after the food. After a very average meal, I asked the waiter if I could use the restaurant's phone in order to make a local call to alert our friends that we had finished dinner and they could now come to meet us for a cocktail in the restaurant's bar. I was directed to the public telephone on the corner.

Polished Italian, but lean portions
The menu is terrific, with ocean trout tartare, antipasto selection, scallops as example starters, pastas and risottos plus interesting fish and meat options for mains. My antipasto starter consisted of the most delicious square of frittata I've ever had, crunchy bruschetta, baby eggplant and a battered zucchini flower. Tried a friend's ocean trout tartare, which had a smidgen of cauliflower puree and avruga caviar as good touches. But the main courses were disappointing. My squid ink tortellini, filled with crab and on a tomato and caper sauce was dry (the tortellini) and the sauce was too oily. It was a very lean portion - only 3 tortellini for a main course. A friend's veal was good, but not stellar. The two salads were delicious, but also very, very small. Service was helpful, particularly navigating through a strongly Italian wine list. We came out spending $100 a head, with everyone having 2 courses and having half a dessert, and a couple of glasses of wine. I think it's overpriced. It's definitely delicious food, but cheeky pricing will put me off a return visit.

Great space! Great food! The signature dish was phenomenal - only the serving was a little small. It was delicate and full of flavour. My friend had the prawn etc risotto, which was also exceptional. I had the beef carpaccio of the day for my entree and that was also sublime. Truly impressed. Can't wait to go back.

I loved it - I thought the setting was great (but then I love art deco) although I understand there are some paintings coming to brighten up the walls. It was a lovely sunny day and it was just divine and light. The service was great - not too overbearing, very knowledgeable and nice smiling faces! The food was terrific - my squid ink pasta was moist and delectable, my duck to die for and the chocolate eggplant desert - well I ordered it for the cheerful, detailed and historical explanation from the chef!

Really nice way to spend an afternoon
Venue was a bit stark (deco can be so much warmer and charming), but service was lovely, and food, though not 'fall off your chair' great, was really very nice. I've had better squid ink pasta (the signature dish's pasta was quite dry) but the lemon/caper/tomato sauce was a beautiful tangy touch. The steamed snapper was sweet and flakey and the frangipani tart was bursting with almondy goodness. A very welcoming venue where you could happily sit for hours and made feel welcome enough to do just that.
