Coburg's latest 'it' cafe is the brainchild of none other than Marco Sellitto, the 20-year hospitality veteran responsible for such iconic venues as the Continental, Marios and the Italian. It's no wonder, then, that Little Deer Tracks has the smooth-flowing ambience of a well-established business; it is being helmed by a consummate professional.
In many ways LDT is a merger of Sellitto's professional and personal lives, bringing together his expanse of hospitality knowledge with the food served in his family home. The menu at LDT spans the depth and breadth of classic Italian staples, but with an eye to fresh, healthy, vegetarian options.
Don't be mistaken, LDT's vego ethos is about as far from extremism as you can get without gnawing on a side of meat - there are no sides of facon (fake bacon) or 'say it ain't soysauges'. Instead, there is a solid menu that features all those comforting buzz words synonymous with healthy, fresh food: organic, free-range, vegetarian, homemade and slow cooked. It's hard to believe that something so inextricably entwined with idealistic principles could be wrapped up in such a laidback, breezy cafe.
