Little Creatures has migrated from its Fremantle HQ, setting up Little Creatures Dining Hall at Fitzroy. Yes, it's a dining hall, but the focus here is still on beer, with plenty of the label's ales flowing from the taps. The menu is designed with beer in mind, offering a range of robust snacks that will happily soak up a pale ale or three. Think chilli and tomato mussels; steak and onion pie with peas and mash; and grilled kangaroo with tomato chutney.

snooty staff
I went to LC with an acquaintance from out of town who had had a great time at the one in Perth. By contrast, the Melbourne version leaves much to be desired. While the space is reasonably nice, we had terrible service the night we were there. We had a really snooty waitress who made us feel like we were unworthy of being served by her and a similarly unpleasant manager. We had a mix up over seating and instead of apologising the staff were basically rude and supercilious. If the food had been fantastic I might have been able to forgive some of this behaviour but I thought it was very ordinary and my friend's dish was burnt. There are many great food and drink destinations in Fitzroy-this one isn't one of them.

Almost worth the wait
Being in a large round we had to wait more than an hour to get a booth. This is fine since you can stand around and drink just like any old pub. It only got annoying when we asked a few times how high we were on the waiting list and was repeatedly told we'd be next, then saw several tables being given to other groups.
In the end, being completely famished after the food was quite good. Hearty pub style food, that goes very well with the excellent beer. A touch on the expensive side.

Good night out
I went to the Dining Hall with my mates. We were waiting some time to get a table, but were content to have some of the fantastic beer and savour the buzzing atmosphere. The staff remembered we were waiting the longest and got us a table soon as possible.
The menu is quite limited but the lamb shanks I had were absolutely fantastic, the staff were good fun and lively and all in all the food, beer and atmosphere mixed with the open kitchen and beer hall feel made for an extremely enjoyable and relaxed Friday evening.
I would highly recommend it, but be prepared to wait.

6 of us went here for lunch and the service was so poor. We waited about 30 mins to even get asked if we wanted a drink and it took so long to bring the drinks and food. 2 of us picked a pie with coleslaw, mash and gravy but when they came out only got coleslaw and gravy, no mash. When this was questioned they were told that you only get mash if you order peas! When they asked for some mash were told that it would cost extra and then it didn't arrive while we were eating so obviously it was not paid for. The size of the portion of mash was atrocious anyway. The food was ok but not worth the price and we would not go again.
