Liquorish

Jason Coats' food earned him a solid reputation at his previous restaurant, the unpretentious and aptly named Suburban in Mt Gravatt. A year and a half and a lot of money later, he's still at the stoves and still in the 'burbs, but there's nothing pedestrian about this Bulimba bistro. Okay, so it's next door to the bank and sometimes the closest car park you can find is in Hawthorne, but once you step through the big glass doors you'll forget all that.

Coats has created four unique spaces, each catering to a different crowd and a different occasion, and the result is first-class. There's travertine floors and sandstone in the bar, a rustic bistro scheme in the adjoining space, opulent lighting and white leather banquettes in the formal dining room, and an intimate, candlelit corridor for private celebrations. It's a concept that often manifests as a whole lot of nothing, but this place pulls it off with a style that shames some of its city contemporaries.

Despite the swank interior, former fans of Suburban will still feel at home here; the menu is Euro-centric and seasonal, featuring honest, hearty favourites such as slow-roasted duck, lamb shanks and the ubiquitous Brisbane sand crab lasagne. Among the arguably more sophisticated dishes, the twice-baked porcini souffle and braised wagyu pudding stand out, and there are well-priced wines to match them all.

Once again...
I can't believe it has been over a year since my last dining experience here (4 August 2008 for lunch). I won't be leaving it that long again!

Saturday night for dinner, my guest and I arrived at what looked like a restaurant with no available seats and a function on the front lawn area. It was a great inviting and vibrant atmosphere. No booking but we were seated immediately and advised the food orders could take time due to the crowd. This gave us an excuse to enjoy the people watching and a couple of glasses of the excellent Walnut Block Sauv Blanc.

We only ordered mains and they didn't take too long. I enjoyed the duck leg and my guest loved the chicken breast and we shared the broccolini accompaniment. The food again was amazing with both of our meals moist and succulent.

It is my Mother's birthday coming up and I will be suggesting we go here for lunch. Well done again!

Fantastic service, mouth-watering desserts
Very nice, cosy restaurant, bustling and energetic on a Saturday night. We managed to get a restaurant even with a late booking, and our table was ready for us when we arrived 5 minutes prior. The manager and our waiter were very charming, and service was fantastic. Food came very briskly after ordering, as did the drinks. The soft shell crab entree we had was amazing, but the mains - lamb shanks for the Mr, and crispy skinned chicken for me - were a bit mediocre. Their desserts looked as good on the menu as they did on our plates, and were marvelous - definitely the best part of the meal in itself! Cocktails offered looked very tempting, but we were too full to order any. Meal portions were small-ish, but overall quite satisfying. Will definitely come back!

Great staff function
We had a staff leaving function at Liquorish.

The service arranging the function and the service on the night was excellent.

We had a set menu due to the large size of our group and the feedback from our group was 'the food was delicious' & 'the best barramundi I have ever eaten'

Great service, great food - eat at this restaurant!

Liquorish has it all if you're looking for a restaurant that ticks all the boxes. I always enjoy our visits to Jason's Restaurant to impress friends or just for a drink at the bar.

Okay
I went to Liqourish on a Friday at lunch time for my birthday. Nothing really stood out to me for a main so we shared 5 tapas and had a few cocktails.
The arancini was pretty good which we shared but not a lot of flavour.
We also shared the gnocchi, wagyu pie, squid and scallops. All were pretty good.
Overall I'd have to say I was a little disappointed as I excepted a bit more variety and the restaurant had an almost sterile feel at times between the uncolourful restaurant and clientele which made it a bit hard to get relaxed.
It was good - wasn't great. Will most likely go back to try a dinner.

Followed
I enjoyed a night out a few years ago at Suburban, so wanted to try Jason's new restaurant.

Saturday lunch was a beautiful spanner crab lasagne with lobseter oil dressing for myself and my guest enjoyed salmon with salad nicoise which she loved.

Well done. I will be heading back.
