Le Paris Brest is a bit of a chameleon. Not just because of the assortment of brightly coloured walls, attention-grabbing impressionist-style paintings and richly coloured patisserie cakes, but also for its ability to transform a buzzing, lively daytime atmosphere into a warm, romantic dining space by night. There's a storyteller visit every Wednesday morning at 9.15am for the kids, while market day (the first Saturday of every month) sees market attendees flocking to Paris for post-shopping refreshments. The cafe also holds functions and cocktail parties and provides external catering for that oh-so-fabulous party you'd rather throw at home.

Pass it by
We booked for lunch knowing it was Sunday and it would more than likely be busy. We were dumped at our table and left for half an hour before almost having to physically tackle a waitress in order to get some water. Although it would appear if one is a member of the local clique then the wait staff have all the time in the world to stay and chat. I ordered a steak sandwich and my partner the beef bourginion pie. The steak was dry and tough as an old race horse served with limp oily home made fries. The pie was burned on top and the pastry barely cooked at the base. It contained 3 pieces of meat and an insipid looking gravey. All this after waiting over an hour.

Poor
Extremely slow service and this was with a set menu. We didn't hang around for the food. Heavy price tag for how coffee and Brichon entree. Very disappointing but I have defn noticed a decline since I first visited.

Definitely not what it used to be
I've been going to this cafe for a few years and the standard of service has slipped considerably over that time. Last time I was there I took my parents and boyfriend - we waited almost an hour for just coffee and cakes. They got our order wrong and then told us one of the cakes we ordered (half an hour previously) was not available. Really dreadful service. And then the coffee was cold! Cannot recommend it - there are other cafes in the Kalamunda area far superior.

Very enjoyable
A comfortable and friendly atmosphere with good service and an excellent meal. The homemade pies were the best I have ever tasted, followed up with mouth-watering pastries and freshly brewed coffee. I heartily recommend Le Paris Brest for a delightful dining experience.

Gone downhill
It is such a shame that this cafe has let its standards drop so dramatically. We used to love going there for breakfast but on recent visits have been utterly disappointed in not only the food, but the service as well. The menu is limited to three dishes for breakfast, and has been for at least the past five months (probably longer), and they can't even get those dishes right! It's the little things that matter, such as asking for your hollandaise sauce on the side, to instead have it poured all over your eggs; and having to ask for your spinach, even though it was listed as part of the dish on the menu. The coffee has been disappointing the last few visits, too, and the staff have seemed stressed and miserable. What's going on Le Paris Brest? It's gone from a shining star to a very mediocre cafe in the space of a year.

Not worth the effort
Perth has a long way to beat the eastern states if this one of the best restaurants it can offer. Perhaps it was a bad day. The staff were inefficient, the baguette was stale, the tuna sandwich was old, the table service was bad. Did I forget to mention that the pies were mediocre? On the bright side, the cakes were delicious.
