How annoying that the 'French paradox' is not really a paradox at all. And how completely untimely this discovery has been, given that Savico and Karen Basset-Rouge, who for several years have been spoiling the residents of Albany Creek with their tartes and gateaux, have expanded their business to the city.
On one of Brisbane's prettiest corners, under the shade of a gorgeous old fig, Le Bon Choix is a veritable oasis of tranquility in downtown's chaotic hub, and its appeal is not limited to real estate. Office folk flock for the ham and chicken baguettes, fresh salads and the excellent (if of dubious heritage) pies and focaccias, but sweet treats are where the real action is at.
Unveiled for the business's grand opening, 'le rival' is patissier Savico's latest creation: a dense chocolate cake base, a layer of almond sponge, a filling of gianduia and praline mousse, and a topping of scooped balls of chocolate - it's only one of the complex mousse-based masterpieces that Savico is famous for. You'll also find more recognisable French fare in his meticulous display: tarte au citron, pain au chocolate, croissant aux amandes and beignets with vanilla creme patisserie to name just a few calorie-saddled favourites, all conspiring to make 'le bon choix' (meaning 'the right choice') not a particularly easy one.

Eclair to die for
Omg. The most delicious vanilla eclair I've ever tasted. A bit pricey but well worth it.

Sweet Sanctuary
Le Bon Choix was a relaxing place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Loved the range of cakes & pastries and they also do lunch fare such as focaccias. Staff were polite and helpful and the whole experience overall was excellent!
